A Dramatic Rescue in Kenya

On October 8, in Kenya, there was an 8-month-old elephant that fell and got stuck in a well.  The well is 5-feet-deep and is located near Kenya's Amboseli National Park.

It took about 30 minutes to get the baby elephant out of the well. While two people started to put a rope around the baby, a woman named Vikie Fishlock from the Amboseli Trust for Elephants, made a high-pitched sound to scare the mother (Zombe) away. With the mother elephant away, the rescue team got the rope around the elephant. Then, Fishlock used her Land Rover to pull him out of the well. Fishlock realized that the mother was coming, but she believed that the mother finally realized that they were trying to help her baby. She did not become aggressive and try to attack.

The next day, a 3-month-old baby elephant fell in the same well.  Once it got out it was sent to an elephant orphanage in Nairobi, Kenya's capital city.

Leaping Tigers

When you hear a tiger you think you are going to hear a roar. But they actually have a few different sounds. Those sounds can be a purr, roar, chuffle, growl, and moan. In fact, tigers don't roar very often. But when they do, you can hear it from a mile away.

All tigers have stripes on them. A group of tigers is called a streak. They have over 100 stripes. Not only do they have stripes on their fur they also have stripes on their skin.

When you look at their fur you only think that they have one long layer of fur. They actually have two layers of fur. The top layer of fur is for protection. The layer under that is for warmth.

 When you look at their ears, their ears are black with a white spot on them which is called an ocellus. Their tails help them balance when making tight turns. Tigers are night hunters which makes them nocturnal. Tigers can see 6 times more better than humans in the dark. Most carnivores have 42 teeth, But tigers only have 30. Every paw on a tiger has four claws. On the front paw, each paw has one extra claw. Those claws are called dewclaws. They never touch the ground, but they are used for gripping and climbing. Tigers' toes are softly padded so their prey doesn't hear them coming.

Tigers are the largest cat species, and the third largest land animal. The largest are polar bears and the second largest would be brown bears. Tigers are strong swimmers. They are the only big cats that enjoy time in water. When a tiger leaps, he or she can jump over 30 feet. Tigers can mainly be found in many habitats such as, tropical forests, woodlands, mangrove swamps, and grasslands. Tigers are wonderful animals because they have so many interesting facts about them and they are an endangered species and we should start doing better to save these wonderful animals!

What Happen's on Friday's At Hillwood

Each Friday Miss Morehead comes in and we do the blog. Miss Morehead is Oliver's mom. The blog is called The Hillwood Herald. The blog is when we wright an artical and post them on the blog. After we do the blog, we have art. Our art teacher is Anna. Anna is Rubina's mom. After art we have lunch and we go to the park. When we come back we have study hall and we have a selling test. On Friday's we have thirty mins of study hall instead of 45 because of our science class which is really fun. On our third time we flew our hang gliders. After the day is over at 3:00, we go down stairs and we watch a movie!

Fluffy Brown Bears

Bears live way up in the mountains of Alaska. Bears like to go deep into the forest. What bears do in there seems to be a secret. If we know what they are doing, then we will be able to help them. Lately many people are going have been going into they're home.

Bears come in all sizes and colors. Brown bears are also known as grizzly bears in different places. Pandas are black and white, polar bears are white and live in the snow. Bears are loaners which means that they don't like company even other kinds of bears. Loverd Byerd is a bear detective and watches them in a pan handle in Alaska.

When detectives want to film what animals are doing, ten they have to put a camera on them. They put it on to find out what the mysterious behaviour. Bears like to eat anything in sight. When they are tired, bears dig up dirt and fall asleep. The big secret is that they are with their family.

Groundhog Day

In Pennsylvania the Groundhog Day is celebrated the most. Phil, a groundhog, saw his shadow this year. Phil saw his shadow ninty-nine times and didn't see his shadow fifteen times. If he sees his shadow, then there will be six more weeks of winter. If he doesn't see his shadow, then spring will start early and there won't be six weeks left of winter. Even if he sees his shadow or not, there will still be six more weeks of winter left.

I think that Groundhog Day is for winter and not just to see a groundhog and having fun. Groundhog Day is helpful for finding out if there is winter left or not. Groundhog Day is fun at school because it is Jojo's birthday.

Today's Talent Show!

Today is the talent show!  This day is full of fun and exciting things to do.  At about 10:30 or 11:00 we will exchange gifts, and Santa's deputy will tell us if we have been bad or good.  Later, after lunch, we will have a talent show, and we will sing Spanish songs and Christmas songs. People will also do their own things or do a solo.  The talent show will end at 2:30. Then at 2:30 until 4:30 parents and teachers will go up to the family room and have a small party.  It will be a very fun day.  Hope to see you there!

Activists Leave Before Raids on Vacant Hotels

In San Francisco police searched in two hotels on Tuesday. About thirty officers

first looked at Cathedral Hill Hotel at vaness avenue. But the activists left over night. For most of their afternoon looking at 600 rooms but they found out that they left earlier.

But the activists did go to Cathedral Hill. California Pacific is planning to demolish building a new hospital. After, they searched through Charlie's Hotel. After looking at both hotels the police started to gather in numbers.the police went back to Cathedral Hotel even though they were sure that the protesters left.

then the police escorted repairemen inside to turn on the elevators. then police things that shot beanbags.about 30 officers arrived three hours later.officers ran to the front door making orders.they closed roads which caused traffic.

"We attempt to make contact with them earlier in the day." That's what officer Carlos Manfredi said. the protesters want to make contact with the officers.
