What Happen's on Friday's At Hillwood

Each Friday Miss Morehead comes in and we do the blog. Miss Morehead is Oliver's mom. The blog is called The Hillwood Herald. The blog is when we wright an artical and post them on the blog. After we do the blog, we have art. Our art teacher is Anna. Anna is Rubina's mom. After art we have lunch and we go to the park. When we come back we have study hall and we have a selling test. On Friday's we have thirty mins of study hall instead of 45 because of our science class which is really fun. On our third time we flew our hang gliders. After the day is over at 3:00, we go down stairs and we watch a movie!

Art is Math?

Have you ever thought I wish I was in art instead of being in math. Well, today Angela and I found out you can do art in math or vice versa. You can just draw spirals or shapes that are connected and color the spaces in as long as the colored in spaces don't touch. When you draw a squiggle, a line in which both lines connect, and weave the lines you draw, you create a snake.

Angela and I drew our own spirals/snakes.The creator of the video said that whatever you draw, the games will work out, but a few times Angela and I messed up and it didn't work.

Cast Your Vote!

Take a look at the 40 regional finalists, selected from 400 state finalists, for this year's U.S. Doodle 4 Google contest. This year, there were a record number of submissions — more than 107,000 from talented student artists from every state across the country. From Stilwell, Oklahoma, to Woodinville, Washington, Googlers are visiting the schools of the regional finalists to celebrate their incredible artwork along with thousands of their teachers, friends and classmates.

The doodle team, volunteer Googlers and guest judges helped determine the 40 regional finalists. Whoopi Goldberg and Jim Davis, Garfield the Cat's creator, among others lent a hand to help decide the top doogles. Now comes one of the most exciting parts of the contest, accordign to Google -- your votes! From now until May 13 at 11:59 p.m. PDT, you can cast your online votes for your favorite doodle (one vote for each of the four grade groups). On May 19, Google will announce the national winner at our awards ceremony in New York City. The national winner will receive a $15,000 college scholarship and $25,000 towards a new computer lab for his or her school, and the winning design will appear on google.com on Friday, May 20. All of the top 40 regional finalists will also have their work publicly displayed at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York and at SFMOMA in San Francisco.

Learing to Draw

At the end of each Friday we draw! Thanks to Rubina's mom, Anna, who volunteers, she teaches us how to draw well. She usually comes between 2:15 and 3:00 and tells us what we are going to draw or paint about. The school now has clipboards so we don't use tables any more but just clip a piece of paper to the clipboard and draw. Anna even has her own website: AnnaSeven.com. It's where she shows paintings that she makes. The two images above are images from her website. The first one is called "The Heat" and the one to the right next to it is "Lion for My Daughter". Some drawing's the class liked a lot is drawing teapots and making fans out of rice paper.

Flowers for the People!

Every where you click on the Flower Power website, a flower appears!

This website allows you to make your artwork pretty no matter what you draw! It's so easy, all you have to do is click your cursor. You can make things as simple as my picture, or you could make a picture as beautiful as the Mona Lisa. All you have to use is your computer mouse, no paint needed! This website titled "Flower Power" is fun and it's easy to make beautiful flower portraits.

I felt like making this wordle because it describes the 5th-8th grades. This picture also has the k-8 grade teachers, principals, and subjects.

Doodle for Google

The Doodle 4 Google contest took place in March, and the dateline was March 31st. The winner's photo was on the Google homepage yesterday (May 27th, 2010). Mackenzie Melton, in 3rd grade at El Dorado Springs, in El Dorado Springs, Missouri. She won for the kindergarten through 3rd grade group, at the age of 9. She said, "I chose this doodle because the rainforest is in danger and it is not fair to the plants and animals. I love everything except spiders and snakes, but I would still save them." Her design won from over 33,000 contestants.

I think that this picture got chosen, because it took time to make, and it was a good theme. If I were a judge, I would have chosen this. Also, the image is pretty and colorful, unlike some other pictures. This was a wonderful picture to have been drawn by a nine year old. I think it's interesting how that the "e" at the end of Google, was a snake, even though Mackenzie doesn't like snakes. Her picture was creative and outside of the box. Now you think about what you would want to draw, and for what reason, if you had entered the contest.

She won her picture to be the Google homepage from yesterday, a $15,000 collage scholarship, a netbook computer, and a $25,000 for her schools computer system.

Great Moments in Lego History

Legos are used everywhere in the world by people of all ages. Also people use Legos to make videos and put them on the Internet. This first video is very interesting because a person used Legos to recreate a video game.

Most people who make these videos are very artistic. Usually the videos are two minutes which is pretty long for a normal video. It is also pretty hard to make the characters, back round, and vehicles.

Artist Highlight

Lorenzo Hurtado Segovia is a artist that takes things apart and puts them back together in different shapes.

Lorenzo Hurtado Segovia is most famous for shredding them into art that is literally more than the sum of its parts. Lorenzo Hurtado Segovia works on numerous amounts of pieces of art at the same time. Lorenzo started creating art at the age of eleven.

At eleven, he was taking things apart and then bringing them back together in a different order. Deborah Hurtado Segovia was Lorenzo's wife. Deborah's name is painted onto most of the works. Most of his art is about his wife. I like his art like art to be hung in a gallery, I wouldn't want his art in my house.

Art at Hillwood, with My Mom

Art is a subject at Hillwood School. Our art teacher is Anna Sargysan. She is also my mom. She does art every Friday. The upper graders have art after the park, the 2nd through 4rth go before the park, and the little kids do art right before lunch. Anna does still life, abstract, and origami with us. At home, she paints all sorts of paintings.

Art and Technology Helping in Life

By simply moving your eyes, the EyeWriter can help artists handicapped by Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), aka "Lou Gehrig's Disease", or other paralyzing diseases, draw. ALS, a progressive neurodegenerative disease, paralyzes its victims, disallowing artists to create their design.

The EyeWriter is a result of the collaboration of Free Art and Technology, OpenFrameworks, Graffiti Research Lab, Ebeling Group communities, and ALS sufferer Tony Quan.

Tony Quan, a graffiti artist, hadn't drawn in years due to his disease. But then came Zachary Lieberman, the head of this project and friend of Tony Quan, with his new EyeWriter.

Zachary Lieberman is a computer programmer who specializes in computer graphics, human-computer interaction, and computer vision. He combines his skills in fascinating projects, some of which he profiled in a recent lecture now available online courtesy of PopTech. To learn more about Zachary, read this Herald article.

Get Ready to Doodle 4 Google

Google is making a contest, called Doodle 4 Google, for people who are in grades K-12. If you are in those grades, you could customize the Google logo. If you win you get $15,000 for collage, a trip to the Google New York Office, a laptop computer, a T-shirt with their design on it, and a $25,000 donation to your school's computer lab from Google. And the top 40 designs would be on display at the Smithsonian National Museum.

Last year, Hillwood Academic Day School entered in this contest, but we did not win. This year we are thinking of entering again, to see how far we can get. This year, the subject for Doodle 4 Google is, what I want for the world.

Registration for the contest closes at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time on March 17, 2010, and entries are due by March 31, 2010 no later than 11:59 P.M. Pacific Time. The winning picture will be featured on our Google.com homepage on May 27, 2010. For more information, read this page on Google. Doodle 4 Google

Doodle 4 Google is a contest that students in the U.S.A. can enter. The grades kindergarten through 12th grade can enter. All of Hillwood entered the contest at the end of the school year last year, but none of them won.

I have selected some of the finalist's drawings for you to view. The people who drew took their time and did as hard as they could. I think everybody did grea,t but there was a few that stood out from all of them.

I would encourage every kid [K-12] to enter, because it is a good way to fell good about your work and your self.

Lego Art made by Ordinary People!

Many people make art out of lego. Many photos are uploaded on Flickr so people can see the lego art that people make. This photo is a very famous piece of art work. If you look closely, you will see that it is an image of the famous piece of artwork Mona Lisa. But this Mona Lisa is made out of lego!

Now this is a group of pieces of artwork. The fifth one is Mona Lisa. They are all very famous pieces artwork. All of these pieces of artwork are made out of lego. Some of this artwork is on flickr, a site where you could upload your images. Many people upload photos of their lego artwork. A lot of people do lego art.

Nathan had a video of how he was making a cello out of lego. Why are so many people interested in lego art.

Nathan Sawaya was born July 10, 1973. Nathan is a artist who builds sculptures out of lego. Nathan was born in Colville, Washington, and he was raised in Veneta, Oregon. In my other post, I wrote this information but it wouldn't hurt to write it again. Nathan has created some of the best pieces of lego artwork since 2,000. He made a life-size tyrannosaurus rex! He made models of many characters from animations and cartoons including Curious George. Nathan is a very talented lego artist who made a very big amount of artworks. Nathan also made a very huge self portrait.

T. Enami's photos are brought back to life

Photographer Okinawa Soba and Flickr have partnered up to reanimate the stereoscopic photos of T. Enami (1859-1926) .

Stereoscopy is the art of making the illusion of 3-D photographs. The stereoscope required an eye wear device that shows each eye two different images of the same object at slightly different angles, creating an illusion of depth between the pair of photos. Created by Sir Charles
Wheatstone in 1940, the stereoscope was popular throughout the rest of the 19th-century and the early 20th century.

T. Enami was Nobukuni Enami's trade name. He was a famous photographer and collotypist of Japan's Meiji period. Enami was featured in National Geographic.

Recycle .... Worm Food

Phoebe is a phoenix that helps us reduce, reuse, recycle, and compost. She helps us by teaching to reduce, reuse, recycle, and compost. By carefully dumping our trash to the recycling bin, trash can, and the compost box. We recycle our paper, plastic bottle, and plastic container. We can dump our food scrape, dirty napkins, and dirty cardboard tray. We can dump our trash into the trash can.

SF Dump made a reindeer out of trash. I like this because they use reuse trash to make this.

Preview of Fantastic Mr. Fox

I just watch previews and reviews of Fantastic Mr. Fox. This movie looks great, they had to stop animation. They took shot 5,229 and 621,450. They used 120 gigabytes a day. They had to hand make all the animals and costumes.

The story looks similar to the book. The book is about a family of foxes and his friends are stealing from three of the meanest and ugliest farmers in the town. The farmers never like this so they set up a bunch of traps, but foxes are slick and smart.

The movie is very similar, it might no be the exact thing but it still has the same plot and story but with some new characters added.I think this is a great movie so see it now.

Holiday Cards Made by Famous Artists

The Smithsonian has one hundred holiday cards made by famous artists. Only thirty five cards are on their site. The rest are on display in the Smithsonian museum in Washington D.C., where you can visit the exhibit.

Marvel Comics has a "Create Your Own Superhero" website that allows people to design and show off their own super hero.
