Occupy LA protesters gather on steps of City Hall

For my current event project I will be writing abo ut how about 300 people in L.A. are protesting. The article did not say why they are protesting. Citizens saw multiple sightings of police brutality. This article dose not have any killings. This all took place in L.A.

A woman named Julia Wallace said "I saw a woman being pushed down the steps, people being jabbed with batons," said Julia Wallace, member of movement's Committee to End Police Brutality. "I saw someone thrown to the ground." There were multiple sighting just like this. There was a man who was hit by rubber bullets that left him with bruising. Most of this article was police brutality.

 This article is very sad because those people were just standing up for what they believe is right (which in this case I thank it is right) they get punished for it. There were many sightings of police brutality before but this is different because they had a right because they work hard and they still get paid less than 1 percent of people. Police brutality is a very bad thing to see because they are here to protect you but they are hurting you instead. People have now started protesting about police brutality around San Francisco I know this because I have seen it before. I hope we can all take a good look at this problem more than ever.

Our Visit to City Hall

The whole upper-grade class went to City Hall to protest about putting toys in unhealthy Happy Meals from McDonald's. We helped to try and replace the unhealthy choices with healthy choices in Happy Meals, so that kids could be rewarded with toys when they choose healthy things, so that they'll eat healthier.

When we went to City Hall, there were plenty of people who wanted, and did, protest against putting toys in unhealthy meals. I think it helped since we were so cute... We stood in front of City Hall for about three minutes with our signs, getting interviewed. We also got interviewed inside.

I believe by all of us going to City Hall to protest, we really made a point that not only do adults care, but so do kids. From that day to this one I, and probably everybody else, am still wondering when it will pass. We hope that it will so that when parents are in a rush and need a quick meal, it can also be a healthy meal for their kids.

The Upper Grader Class

In the at City Hall picture the students names at the top row Julian Farr, Zack Owen - Walkup, Brigette Wang in the middle row their names are Irene Tong, Lance Yasinsky and in the last row their names are Anya Jensen, me (Brandon Wong), and Rubina Hovhannisyan. Every one in the City Hall picture looks happy and had a good time at the field trip. Our last field the Asian Art Museum was amazing because the Spirit of the Samurai exhibit had a lot of interesting artifacts. 1 they had a lot cool and amazing artifacts like the Buddha meditating on top of a lotus. 2 they let us hold a real life samurai sword, let us wear a samurai mask plate, and let us wear a samurai helmet.

Upper-Graders Head to City Hall

On Monday, November 16, the upper-graders of Hillwood went on a field trip to San Francisco's City Hall. We toured this majestic dome learning about its history, looking at valuable objects and artifacts, and found out facts about San Francisco that we never knew before.

Some things that are memorable include the San Francisco flag, city flower, and the architecture. Most of the walls with designs were handcrafted and made from wood from Manchuria.

Brigette and I also learned about the San Francisco flag. On the flag, it has a phoenix emerging from the fire standing for the 1906 earthquake. On it, there are also the Spanish words: "Oro en Paz - Fierro en Guerra." When translated, it means "Gold in Peace, Iron in War."

Our city flower is the Dahlia. Its color and beauty symbolizes the life of San Francisco and the spirit of the people who live within the city.

And that was our field trip!

These photos highlight our tour to City Hall on Monday, 11/16/09. I think the most interesting aspect of the building was the amazing detail of the architecture, it gives a sort of 'Renaissance' feel to it.

Our Upcoming City Hall Field Trip!

On Monday, November 16, we are going to go on a field trip to City Hall. This trip will be part of our social studies lesson.

City Hall, located in San Francisco, California, was opened in the 1800s but then damaged by the 1906 earthquake. It was restored in December of 1915 and is now the fifth largest dome in the world. Numerous couples have married at City Hall but the most famous is Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio.

The Board of Supervisors are there to help discuss problems with their districts. Our district supervisor is Michela Alioto-Pier, and she also manages the Catheral Hill neighborhoods, Cow Hollow neighborhoods, Presideo Hill neighborhoods, and some others.

The City Administrator is Edwin Lee and he was appointed by Mayor Gavin Newsom. His responsibility is to manage all the policies and regulations made by the Mayor, board of supervisors, and voters.

And last but not least, Mayor Gavin Newsom! Mayor Gavin Newsom works from day-to-day to "chair the city council" and governs, specifically, San Francisco.
