How To Interview Somebody

How you can interview somebody is to stay on topic. Make sure you talk less than the person you are interviewing. Make sure you do not ask offensive questions. If you talk about racism be sure not to say anything inappropriate. Also do not say inappropriate things. Here are some example questions. Do not ask harsh and upsetting questions. When your interview turns into a debate have a reasonable opinon on your topic.

What is your view on racism?

What is your opinion on Charles Dickens' work?
What is your opinion about Sherlock Holmes being bad or good? What is your view on boy bands?

Tips in Interviewing

What might help while interviewing some one is not to ask embarrassing questions. Also, asking questions that will make people sad will not help. You might also want to ask question that will interest people who are going to hear the interview. Boring questions might just get a smaller audience. Asking mean question that will make people feel insulted might not help either. More than one answer to a question might be interesting as well. One kind of a boring question is yes or no questions.

Some questions that are interesting are:

1.What is your sport and why?
2.What is your view on debates?
3.What do your plan for when your grown up?

Interview with Adam and Judy!

Today Adam and Judy came to our classroom at Hillwood Academic Day to talk to us for just over an hour. They are mechanical engineers, and mechanical engineers figure out how things works.

Judy and Adam are part of PBS Kids' DESIGN SQUAD, and they have been working with the television show and the website to highlight some design challenges — challenges that kids can do. Judy’s favorite episode of was working with the fashion designers. She liked it because they had a skill she did not have.

Adam and Judy met all sorts of interesting kids with amazing talents — a pilot, a welder, skate- boarders, and fashion designers.

The fashion designers did a fashion competition. Judy and her teammate made a modern dress. They made it out of paper-like material that has been used in making astronaut outfits. They folded the material to made it very compacted. Adam, on the other hand, made a dress that was an evening gown with motors hidden in the dress. When the model pressed a button it turned in to a short cocktail dress.

Adam's favorite episode was in Nicaragua, where they met kids from a school. At this school, instead of a playground, they had a jungle. The kids wanted a playground in the jungle, so Adam and Judy helped them build one. There were swings and lots of other sets.

In January, their show goes live on PBS television, and you can see them building a skate park in Arizona and custom bikes at Crucible in Oakland.

Nancy Pelosi: Update and Biography

Though the possibility of The Hillwood Herald interviewing democratic neighbor and speaker of the House is dimming, we have a renewed hope, now that our lovely Irene has sent another request for an appointment. But we understand that Nancy Pelosi is an active woman.

Born in 1940 in Baltimore, Maryland, Mrs. Pelosi, now a San Francisco resident, is the most high-ranking women in the history of the country as the person third in command . An Italian-American, she is the youngest of Anunciata M. and politician Thomas D'Alesandro, Jr. Because of her father's political background, Ms. Pelosi grew up seeing and hearing politics, and therefore, she might have been given an advantage. After graduating from the Institute of Notre Dame, she received a B.A. in political science from Trinity Washington University in Washington D.C., where she met her husband, Paul Frank Pelosi. Together, they had five children and now live around the corner from Hillwood.

Some of the $1.7 million from President Obama's recent fundraising trip here in San Francisco may go to Nancy Pelosi, as well as to other democratic candidates, but mainly for Barbara Boxer.

Next week, we will be interviewing Tony Long, a Hillwood graduate from the 1960s. The topic will be interviewing techniques, which we will hopefully use with Nancy Pelosi.

Ten Tips for Interviewing

Interviewing is the most significant way for reporters to get information. Like all of us here at The Hillwood Herald.

Here are the top eleven tips for interviewing:

• Schedule the interview ahead of time.
• Do some research on the person your interviewing.
• Say what is your name.
• Try to get the truth.
• Respect the person who your interviewing.
• Get to your interview early.
• Dress nicely for your interview.
• Write down all your question and ask to tape record them.
• Take some notes during the interview.
• Think of some answers you want to get.
• Be professional.

This is a professional interview with Nancy Pelosi and Barbara Walters. We are highlighting this not for the politics (it is from 2006) but for the interviewing techniques. Also, Nancy Pelosi is a neighbor to Hillwood. You can read more about her in Irene's story.
