FROM A GRADUATE: My Block Schedule

I have six classes in this order:

1 - Humanities (Social Studies)
2 - Humanities (English)
3 - Earth Science
4 - Spanish 1
5 - Geometry
6 - PE

But, my school has a block schedule, so we have only three classes a day; alternating classes every other day.

So, on odd days, this is my schdule:
1 - Hum. Social Studies
Advisory/Homeroom
Break
3 - Earth Science
Lunch
5 - Geometry

On even days, this is my schedule:
2 - Hum. English
Advisory/Homeroom
Break
4 - Spanish 1
Lunch
6 - PE

We get out early on Wednesdays for community service so on that day, the schedule is like this:
Period:
1/2
3/4
Break
5/6

Confusing right? I know. I was confused at first too :).

Other high schools usually have (I think, but not all) six classes a day. But, I find it easier to have three instead. It focuses on the subject more since there's extra time and it gives me a chance to do a better job at the homework too since it's not due right after today.

So, example:
Today's Thursday, and I had an even day schedule. Then tomorrow, I'll have my odd day schedule.

By the way, I miss Hillwood's hot lunch :( I have to bring a cold peanut-butter/jelly sandwich.

FROM A GRADUATE: The Start of School

Hey Herald readers! How do you all feel with school coming back in session? Some parents feel like it's torture while others think that it's great!

I started school just last Wednesday — big difference from Hillwood! Hillwood is really small so transferring to Oceana was quite a shock. I haven't been able to make friends yet since most of them came from the same middle schools; but, it is only the second week of school.

My school has a block schedule meaning that everyday has different classes. (See separate post:http://thehillwoodherald.blogspot.com/2010/08/my-block-schedule.html )

There's so many extracurricular activities: theater production, sports, student council, Pacific Asian Club, and lots more. Hehe. I listed the ones that I'm interested in. I'm currently in the tennis club and I'm running for Freshmen Class Secretary! Hope I win! I'm also going to the theater production meeting tomorrow. I'll start posting some videos and pictures the next time I post. I hope that even though I have moved onto high school, I can still be part of the Hillwood family :)

Consider the Timeline of Technology in Schools

First off, make sure you are on a Macintosh for this assignment. Then, take a look at the timeline of technology in a classroom on The New York Times website. Click through the timeline, and take notes — either in paper or on in your actual blog post — and collect screen grabs about what you see and read. (Ms. Moorhead can show you how to take a "screen grab.")

Once you finish with your report, write a visual news story about the evolution of technology in the classroom. What was the first so-called technology? What are the most surprising elements in the time line?

You will need to write at least one paragraph introduction to your story — what are you setting out to do with your story? Then, move into the five W's of your story.

Include at least five images, and do not forget to list sources and labels.
