What was it to be like in Ms.Tom's class
The 2-4 graders were in her class. The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders all work on different things. All of them do math but use different books. The 2nd and 3rd graders use the same book but are in different sections. They also have the same workbook. Who? The 2nd and 3rd graders have the sane workbook. The 2nd graders do social studies. When they do social studies, the 3rd and 4th graders do Encyclopedia findings. When the 3rd and 4th graders do history or science the 2nd graders do Dictionary Skills. Ms.Tom writes words on the board for the 2nd graders called Dictionary Skills. They do Spanish on Thursdays. They only go to the park on Fridays. There is an event called the Talent Show. It is an event where you show your talents in front of the whole school. You don't have to do the Talent Show if you don't have to. It was fun in Ms.Tom's class because I was in here class last year. My favorite subjects were math, reading, recess, history, science, and Encyclopedia Findings. Also the 4th graders do Current events. They get the article from magazines. They went to the Beauty and the Beast play with the upper graders.

Barack Obama and Preventing Bullying in schools.
"A federal law could help students even though states have been passing their own anti-bullying laws," said Kara Suffredini, executive director of Mass Equality, the leading LGBT advocacy organization in Massachusetts. The SSIA (Safe Schools Improvement Act), she said, goes further than most state laws in providing a specific enforcement mechanism -- the withholding of funds. "It also goes further than most states, including Massachusetts, in its reporting requirements and in prohibiting bullying based upon specific, enumerated characteristics, such as sexual orientation and gender identity," she said.
Obama made about three anti-bullying bills:
1st bill:
"A federal law could help students even though states have been passing their own anti-bullying laws, said Kara Suffredini, executive director of Mass Equality, the leading LGBT advocacy organization in Massachusetts. The SSIA [Safe Schools Improvement Act], she said, goes further than most state laws in providing a specific enforcement mechanism -- the withholding of funds. It also goes further than most states, including
Massachusetts, in its reporting requirements and in prohibiting bullying based upon specific, enumerated characteristics, such as sexual orientation and gender identity."
2nd bill:
"SNDA states that elementary and secondary schools must not discriminate against students on the basis of real or perceived sexual orientation or gender identity in any program or activity receiving federal funds, or they will risk losing those funds. 'Discrimination,' under SNDA, includes harassment, bullying, intimidation, and violence based on sexual orientation or gender identity."
3rd bill:
"Schools can and must protect EVERY child -- including those confused about their sexual or gender identity. But they must never use 'bullying prevention' to engage in one-sided advocacy about homosexuality, thereby discriminating against Christian, Jewish and Muslim students who believe homosexual practice is wrong."
Barack Obama invited into the White House some parents of bullied children and the bullied children themselves.

The Awsome Rubber Band Car
Jay, Nikita, and I made a rubber band car and it rolls fast. We put training wheels on it to keep it balanced. We also used CDs, skewers, faucet washers, putty, duct tape, and a rubber band. We used a 5 to 6 inch piece of cardboard. Our car is exactly 5 inches long, and we cut two inches off in the middle so there would be a little hole. We used faucet washers for training wheels, so that the car would not crash into the wall. The training wheels were very little, but very good at keeping it stable.

The succeeding dance pad for ants
We have used a 5 volt AA battery and a buzzer. We also used a little light bulb and connected the buzzer to the battery. We put the battery in the battery holder and connected the battery holder's wires and connected it to the light bulb. We only made a prototype because it was really small and the light bulb light up a little bit. We figured out that the buzzer works if you connect it to the battery because I tried it out and it worked. We taped it to the cardboard with duct tape. If you want to see more inventions go to this website. Next week we will make it a little bigger and see if it works better if it doesn't we will make it a little more bigger and one more battery. We will need more voltage power to make the light bulb light up.

Obama's Questions
Obama is going to ask two specific questions to the country students. Obama would like the students to be able to answer his questions and why. He wants them to because he wants to see if they have good education and what they have learned. What Obama says about education is that you should have good education from learning at school and reading. If Obama ask a question to me that is What is education?. I would answer education is stuff you learn at school, from your parents, and from reading books you are interested in. Obama prayed that the universities and colleges will give the students good education.

Help Save The Lions

Lions are going extinct in Africa. The National Geographic Explorers Dereck and Beverly Joubert wants you to save lions from going extinct. There was about 450,000 lions in Africa 60 years ago, and now there is about 20,000 now. Adult lion roars can reach about 5 milesaway and they have a tuft of hair on the back of their tails. Some people hunted lots of lions in some parts of Africa. It happened about 50 years ago in parts Africa. Some people in Africa hunted lions because they thought the lions would hurt them. The only big cats that are in groups are lions and the groups are called prides.

Judy and Adam's visit to Hillwood
Judy and Adam visited Hillwood last week and looked at our projects. They looked at our mars rover made out of cardboard. They saw that we did the paper table challenge and the pop fly challenge. They saw our buzzer and tried to make it work and it did. The whole class did the pop fly challenge and Judy and Adam saw that all of ours worked. I asked them a question about some of the problems we had with making the hidden alarms work. I wanted to know if they used a battery from Radio Shack, and I asked them whether the mars rover was hard to make.
Adam said they used a double A battery from Radio Shack, and they said the moon rover was hard to make.
Judy and Adam saw that the class made the hidden alarm. They made some of our classmates' projects work and tried it out. We interviewed them and talked about what they do to make the mars rover.
