Ms. Schmitt and music at Hillwood!!!!

Ms. Schmitt is the music teacher at Hillwood. What she does is come in every Wednesday and sings songs with us. We each have a music book and we all decide which songs we want to sing. Usually our favorite songs are:
  • "The Battle of New Orleans"
  • "Super California Surfers"
  • "Swing Low Sweet Chariot"
  • "YMCA"
  • "16 Tons"
  • "Let It Be"
  • "Blowing In The Wind"
  • "This Land Is Your Land"
  • "The Erie Canal"
  • "Yellow Song "
  • "Dock Of The Bay"
  • "If I had Hammer"
  • "Penny Lane"
  • "Rockin Robin"
  • "The Unicorn Song"
  • "I Wanna Hold Your Hand"
  • "Katy's Dumplings"
Ms. Schmitt has many more songs in her book but these are the ones that I was able to gather.

Annually, Ms. Schmitt has a children show at Randall Museum. She invites children from Hillwood to be the Toodala Ramblers who dance and sing in the backgound.

Ms. Schmitt's band members names are: Gayle, Ted, Craig, Tom, and Liz.

The Toodala Ramblers Had a Show Again!

At the Randal Museum there was a show that was with the Toodala Ramblers. Mrs. Schmitt was the main singer, and she is the music teacher at Hillwood School.

The show was great, and the Toodala singers are Faryn, Jay, Oliver, and me, Rubina — all Hillwood students. The performance was for little kids. The band members were Gayle Schmitt on guitar. Ted Silverma on mandolin, Betsy Maudlin on the fiddle, Craig Fletcher on banjo, and Tom Drohan on stand-up bass.

To go to Gayle Schmitt's website click to www.gaylesongs.com. Gayle's show was very nice. They had a lot of audience that was cheering. Most of the crowd were small children who came with their parents. There were two shows: one of her shows was at one o'clock the other was at three o'clock. One of the band members, the fiddle player, was not able to make it. The fiddle player who couldn't make it is named Liz. She couldn't make it to the show so she was replaced by Betsy.

Trip to Muir Woods!

The Hillwood school went to Muir Woods on Sunday. The school was celebrating Hillwood's 60th anniversary. Hillwood took a trip to hike in Muir Woods on Sunday. We had a great B-B-Q and and our music teacher sang songs with her. (Our teacher, Mrs. Schmitt is in the video shown above.)

Hillwood played volley ball, and ran at the creek. We had lots of fun. There were lots of kids that used to go to Hillwood Academic. There was about 40 to 50 kids at the Hillwood cabin. The Grantz family were the ones who aranged this cabin meating. Our music teacher Mrs. Schmitt was there. She is the one who started the band Toodala Ramblers. You could go to her site www. gaylesongs.com and listen to more of her songs.

Or you can watch this photo essay that I made below. Also, there are photos on the school's website from the picnic.
