Malaria

Malaria is a disease spread through mosquitoes which is normally minor if treated. Although there has been a vast history of malaria outbreaks, which took the lives of thousands in weeks. Malaria has many symptoms the most common being; fever, sweating, chills etc.

In order to get Malaria you must be bitten by a mosquito, which spreads a parasite known as Plasmodium. Without medicine to kill the parasite Malaria can develop into anemia or Hypoglycemia which in result blocks your capillaries that bring blood to you brain. It can also develop in cerebral Malaria which can lead to comas, life long learning disabilities, and/or death.

There have been a couple of reports of threats about vulnerability to Malaria but the most recent serious out breaks has been in Greece from 2012-2013.

Overall the chance of you getting Malaria is very low. Only around 20,000 Americans get it yearly. Even if you do unfortunately catch the disease modern medicine should have it gone in around 2 weeks unlike the past centuries when medicine was much less developed, and Malaria was much more dangerous.

If you are still weary of catching the disease just make sure to stay in well screened areas, where mosquito repellent, long sleeves etc.
