Queen Elizabeth II becomes the longest reigning monarch of the UK

Finn Malone

Queen Elizabeth became the longest reining monarch of the U.K. At exactly 17:30 BST she had reigned for 23,226 days, 16 hours and approximately 30 minutes, Surpassing her Great Great Grandmother Queen Victoria. She also became the longest reigning monarch of all 16 countries that are also ruled by her.
"Inevitably a long life can pass by many milestones - my own is no exception - but I thank you all and the many others at home and overseas for your touching messages of great kindness" she said in her speech.
She is not going to have any celebration because she does not want to offend Queen Victoria.

A lot of people are celebrating her death including a retirement home who dressed the place in union jacks and had sherry. So even though the Queen won't celebrate, the public will.
