Rag Dolls

Rag dolls have been popular toys foe many years. Unlike porcelain, they do not shatter when dropped. Rag dolls were introduced during the American Colonial period-1630 to 1732. Before soft fabric wax and other unpleasant materials were used to make dolls.

Rag dolls were the Colonial period because many family's had fabric and soft materials because they needed them for clothes, but fabric could also be used to make the rag dolls that children used for play.

The rag dolls were money-savers. Instead of going to the store to buy an expensive doll, mothers would save scrap material from other projects and then used to create the rag dolls.

The rag dolls were made from cloth fabric for the body, the dress, and the apron. Lace, string, and yarn were used for the hair. The dolls face was usually painted on by the children or just left plain.

Overall, rag dolls were benefits for the children because that would keep them occupied; and the family itself because they were great money-savers.
