A half hour after midnight on New Years Eve the spacecraft New Horizons went past Pluto and found an icy shape. New Horizons' mission was to orbit Pluto while picking up information and every once in a while send data back to Earth. But something went wrong and New Horizons shot past Pluto and found a bowling pin-shaped object.
Scientists wanted the spacecraft to pick up information on this new discovery but New Horizons was already planned to turn around and send info back to Earth for six hours.
This new object is called Ultima Thule.
Ultima Thule is 29 miles up and down. Hopefully, NASA can get more information on Ultima Thule.
