Mom flew to Germany, left 4 kids home alone in Iowa

A mother named, Erin Macke, in Johnston, Iowa has been arrested after leaving her 4 children at home while going to Germany for a 2 week vacation.

Erin has been charged with four counts of child endangerment and one count of transferring a firearm to a person under 21. Police later said that she was charged with transferring a firearm to a person under 21 because she left a gun within the children's reach.

Macke has tried but failed to arrange child arrangements 3 of her children, two 12 year olds, one 7 year old, and one 6 year old.

One of the children had called their father and told him that they had been left unsupervised, which later resulted in the police being tipped off.

Because Macke's babysitters fell through she had left her two 12 year old in charge. "They were concerned, they didn't know, they were confused," Tompkins said of the youngsters. "I mean, we're only talking about 12-year-olds being the adults here."

In the end the Iowa Human Services Dapartment had taken custody of the children.
